Metropol Parasol

Following a competition held by the city of Seville, Spain back in 2004, a redevelopment project was initiated to build the Metropol Parasol at the site of the city’s Plaza de la Encarnacíon. Designed by J. MAYER H. Architects, the Metropol Parasol took five years to build at a cost of €90 million and is the world’s largest wooden structure, spanning a total of 12,670 square meters. Featuring a series of interweaving waffle-like panels that architecturally form canopies and walkways, the timber structure will serve as a giant farmer’s market, archeological site and an elevated plaza containing numerous restaurants and bars, marking the city of Seville as the newest urban center and a must-see destination.

Loteria!

Opening Reception: ¡Lotería, Lotería! (Tres) Art Exhibition
4/30/2011 - 5/7/2011
Bath House Cultural Center

Reception : Saturday, April 30, from 7- 9 p.m.
A Night of Loteria: Saturday, May 7, from 7-8:30 p.m. Meet the artists and play the game using a commemorative deck of cards with reproductions of the original artwork from the show.

This exhibition features 54 local artists who created artwork based on the pictures and symbols from La Loteria, a popular Mexican board game. Loteria resembles a form of bingo that uses pictures instead of numbers. In the game, each player is given a card with 16 squares with pictures and beans to mark the squares that have been called. The first person to get four pictures in a row, vertically, horizontally or diagonally, hollers out LOTERIA and wins the game.

La Lotería is produced by popular artists throughout Mexico. There are different versions of the game, all lovely variations of what remains, essentially, the same symbols. The images from the game depict common everyday objects, places and characters that are easily recognized and significant to the traditions and culture of Mexico.

The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos. Tunde Adebimpe, the director for the full Nine Types of Light movie, storybooked the music videos together with interviews from local New Yorkers on various topics, including dreams, love, fame and the future.

Austin Kleon

Austin Kleon is a writer from Austin, TX. He is the author of Newspaper Blackout. In his book he makes poems by using newspaper and blacking out words with sharpee until only the words of the poem were left clear. He just recently wrote these very very very very cool tips on writing and drawing. And I am very serious when I use the word very. I don't use it loosely. Anyhow, I'll link up to his blog where he lays out How To Steal Like An Artist (And 9 Other Things Nobody Told Me). Very self-explainable. If you are missing the important ingredient to cook up the best creative ideas ever, then you MUST read it. Going thru the article and some of the links there really changed my way I see things now, mainly because I forgot about myself. It was like a slap on the face.

Mac Miller - Knock Knock

Check out the first single from Danger Mouse and Danile Luppi’s new album, Rome. The album was inspired by the film soundtrack work of Ennio Morricone, who composed and arranged scores for more than 500 film and TV productions, including the classic spaghetti Western The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly. The record was recorded at Rome’s Forum Studios, and the album features musicians who actually worked with Morricone.

The album will not be out until May, but you can pick up the 7-inch vinyl of the Jack White’s, Two against One, and Norah Jones, Black on April 16th Record Store Day, via Third Man Records.

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi “Rome” Trailer

There’s no doubt that the talents of Danger Mouse are in heavy demand. Mixing Jay-Z with The Beatles and backing up Cee Lo Green with a mainstream-friendly sound earned him production credits for the likes of The Black Keys, Broken Bells, Danger Doom and Beck. However, Danger Mouse also has a passion project going on with Italian composer Daniele Luppi called Rome. The fairly secretive project took five years to create songs inspired by their shared love of of classic Italian film scores from the 1960s. Capitol Records has confirmed a new U.S. release date of May 17, 2011 for this collaborative effort and sent out a visual teaser that you can watch above.

Take Them Kobe's OFF

"If I see you in them Kobe Bryants, man, I'm gonna cut you right off," Jordan said. "I don't care if your feet kill you, you're gonna wear them Jordans.

"Wait 'til I tell your momma, man. I'm gonna tell her. But if you're gonna keep winning, you can wear them. But that Duke game, you got killed."

Jordan said that if the Tar Heels win two games in New Jersey this weekend and get back to the Final Four, he'll supply the entire team with the tough-to-find (and quite pricey) Air Jordan 11 Retro "Cool Greys," along with "anything you want."

If the Tar Heels are as serious about their sneakers as most kids nowadays tend to be, Marquette could be running into a buzz saw come Friday night.

SebastiAn - Embody

Eyeing for a May 2011 release for his long overdue debut album Total, Ed Banger’s remix aficionado SebastiAn teases his with the LP cut “Embody” – a surprisingly poppy tune if you take his previous work for Daft Punk, Klaxons or the ambient score for Our Day Will Come into account. Obviously, this move will only increase his numbers of followers in the near future. The Embody EP will be released March 28, 2011. Enjoy!

No-Fly Zone

The United Nations approved a no-fly zone on March 17, 2011. The resolution includes provisions for further actions to prevent attacks on civilian targets in response to violence by the government of Muammar al-Gaddafi during the 2011 Libyan uprising. British air force fighters will begin heading to the Mediterranean “in the coming hours” to join the international coalition. Today, Libya called for an
“immediate cease-fire and the stoppage of all military operations” against rebels.
